Many thanks to the internet for helping out with a definition. Apparently whilst “brace” for twice and “hat-trick” for three times are well known, the use of the word “Haul” for four times is less so but here we are, with our fourth recruit completing his probation period in the last month.
Mousehole Male Voice Choir (Keur Mebyon Porthenys) are “tickled pink” to give a very warm welcome and our heartiest congratulations to Lewis Harvey who completed his probation last Monday. Lewis, who was 15 when he started to rehearse with us has since turned 16 but still takes over the position of youngest member of the choir from Henry Ashbee who at 19 has been our youngest member since completing his own probation period just one month ago.
Lewis was spotted and head-hunted when he took part in a karaoke evening at the Royal British Legion in Heamoor (The Pulse) and has taken to choir singing like the proverbial duck to water. Lewis, a former Head Boy at Mounts Bay school is now studying music at Penwith College and already proving to be a considerable asset to the Baritone section.
Lewis’ proud parents were at Paul Church to see Chairman Brett Farmer present Lewis with his choir tie and lapel badge and will doubtless be there again to see Lewis take part in his debut concert at Paul Feast on Sunday 13th October. Hopefully, they will have many more opportunities to see Lewis perform with the choir in the years to come and did have a chance to see Lewis take part in the “social singing” experience in the King’s Arms after the rehearsal. This social singing forms an important part of our choir life and follows most concerts and rehearsals. Our thanks go to the owners and staff of the King’s Arms for giving us such a warm welcome every week!
Following Paul Feast Concert on 13th, there will be little time to draw breath as we have another concert six days later, on 19th as guests of Mevagissey Male Voice Choir in St Andrew’s Church in Mevagissey, from 7pm. We will follow that with a Remembrance concert in The Pulse, Heamoor on 10th November and then a busy December. Details of our programme of events are available on our website and Facebook pages.
All
our rehearsals are "open" and we welcome anyone who wants to come along
to Paul Church between 7.30 and 9.30 pm on Monday evenings to listen to
part or all of the rehearsal and if interested in joining, to speak to
our MD Stephen Lawry. Membership of the choir is open to men of all
ages (provided their voices have broken) and it is not necessary to be
able to read music or to be a prospective soloist. If you fancy it, come
along and have a try, we don’t bite. You will find the friendliest of
welcomes and whilst we do take our choir singing seriously, we also have
fun and a lot of laughs. After a practice or two, your only question
will be “why didn’t I do this sooner?”
