Paul Feast 2016

Monday 10th October, 2016 - 2:06pm

PAUL Feast week celebrations opened in fine style on Sunday (Oct 9) with the annual concert in the parish church by the local Mousehole Male Voice choir, now recognised as one of the largest and finest in England.

With  well over 70 singers - and still increasing year by year - there was a sterling show with melodies old and new of high quality entertainment under the direction of Stephen Lawry with accompanist Annette Turton.

The eager audience, many of them 'home for feast' gave them a great reception as the sound filled the ancient St Pol de Leon church - once set ablaze in the 16th century by the Spanish invaders!

The choir marched in singing 'Hallelujah' and included such favourites as 'Lean on Me' and maintained a cheerful spirit with lively popular items as 'Lean on Me' and 'Wade in the Water' and ending with a joyful  'We Rise Again'. It was a cheerful programme in aid of church funds and was enhanced with the solo skills of flautist Maureen Nicholls. The organist was John Harry.

Another new note came with folk song guests Katie Kirk and Rick Williams with their charming selections and relaxed treatment to provide a total contrast with their individual musicianship.

Feast celebrations continue throughout the week.

There was a welcome and blessing by the Revd. Andrew Yates and thanks to all was expressed by choir Chairman Charles Law.

After a very busy year with several venues outside Cornwall the choir will stage a joint concert with Nankersey choir at Penzance on October 23 and will celebrate Christmas with their traditional carol concert at Paul on Wednesday December 21 to complete another highly successful year.
