Dazzling Christmas Concert in Paul Church
Monday 9th December, 2013 - 12:33pm
On Friday 20th December, at 7.30pm, Mousehole Male Voice Choir will present its Christmas Concert in Paul Church. This year's guest artiste will be the young Cornish soprano, Nancy May.
Admission will be £6 - a bargain for this big event - and programmes will be available from the Kings Arms in Paul, Mousehole News and Morrab Studio, or you can pay at the door. The two charities which will benefit from this event will be CHIN (Christian Helpline In Newlyn) and the Ronnie Richards Memorial Fund (to provide lifesaving defibrillators in public places).
The choir's regular supporters will know that the church will be packed and the village will be heaving with cars so it is essential to get there early. When you park please make sure that buses and emergency vehicles can pass through unhindered.
Stephen Lawry, the choir's Musical Director, will lead them in presenting traditional Christmas music and Cornish Carols, with their Accompanist, Annette Turton, adding her own brilliance to the occasion. The Mousehole choir has a world-wide following through its television appearances, radio broadcasts and recordings. The choir's new CD 'Christmas In Mousehole' will be on sale at £10. It can also be purchased by emailing info@mouseholemalevoicechoir or by 'phoning 01736 731 479.
Nancy May was born on the Roseland Peninsula and started singing lessons at the age of 11 with Heather Mee. Aged only 17, Nancy hit the headlines at the Truro Music Festival in March 2011 by winning all twelve of her classes and being awarded a total of seventeen trophies. Among the numerous accolades she collected was the vocal championship cup, the award for best 16-21 singer and the trophy for most outstanding musician of the week.
Nancy is now in her third year studying vocal and opera studies at the Royal Northern College of Music under the tuition of Sandra Dugdale and sings with the Manchester Gilbert and Sullivan Society. Next spring she will perform as Pitti-Sing in the Mikado. As well as studying, Nancy also teaches singing in a primary school.
Nancy regularly gives recitals in Cornwall and has performed as a Soloist for various choirs throughout the County. Nancy is delighted to be invited to perform as a soloist with the Mousehole choir and will be accompanied by Frances Eagar. She hopes you all have a lovely Christmas.
